Shakedown Gone Bad:Real reasons why Abdulahi Mohammed Tore his PDP Card
In the aftermath of the public membership card tearing incident enacted by the former President Obasanjo, another Politician this time a former aide of Governor Dankwambo also publicly shredded his People's Democratic Party membership card although to somewhat muted acclaim. However the Governor of Gombe state has come out to unravel the real reasons the Politician, Abdullahi Mohammed actually left the PDP in protest and tore his card.Speaking through his media aide Mr Junaid Abubakar, the Governor alledged Abdullahi Mohammed had approached him the previous Friday for a 150Million naira request due to a Mortgage claim that was declined at his bank, however the Governor said due to what he called the "outrageous amount of money" Abdullahi Mohammed had requested,he also declined his request explaining to him that the state had higher priorities than disbursing 150Million to a single individual. The Governor added that he was compelled to set the records straight because Abdullahi Mohammed had lied stating that he was tearing his membership card due to disaffection over the way the country was being run.“It is simply a case of lack of conscience on the former security assistant because he had earlier left the administration to run for a seat in the state assembly, after he lost he came back and the governor magnanimously re-appointed him,” Mr. Abubakar said.
“Governor Dankwambo respects the fact that individuals have a right to associate with anyone, especially in a democracy, but that does not give one the right to lie over it and malign others,” he said.
When Abdullahi Mohammed was reached to comment on the Governor's allegations, while he denied trying to shake the Governor down,he nevertheless raised a number of issues which sounded more believable than the initial one he cited while tearing his membership card.According to him, when he was asked to step down for another candidate the party and presumably the Governor made several promises, none of which were kept.He also inferred that the Governor rendered the 10 of them he appointed as his security consultants redundant“We were never allowed to do anything, we have never sat down with the governor for more than ten minutes, all repeated efforts to sit with him and discuss the issue of security failed.“Rather, some persons who have no knowledge at all of security matters were the ones advising the governor,” he said.
He also used the opportunity to announce his move to the opposition All Progressive Congress party, where he expressed confidence that his new party had respect for rules and internal democracy.Interestingly all through his responce, he never once cited any purely altruistic reasons or reasons bordering on the abject state of the common Nigerian like he did the very first time.
