Profile of Next Saudi King,Prince Salman Al Saud
Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz al Saud whom the late King Abdullah chose as his sucessor is the late Paramount ruler's brother and has been shouldering the late King's responsibilities even before he eventually passed on few hours ago.
King Salman was the Governor of Riyahd Province from 1963 to 2011 when he assumed the role of Defence Minister in 2011.He was born on the 31st of December 1935 the 25th son of the late King Abdulaziz,He had his early education in the prince school Riyahd and have been responsible for a lot of royal duties ever since.He has served on the board of many organisations which include Majis al uthra (the descendant's council) established by King Fahd to mediate on internal family issues,he was also chairman of King Abdulaziz Museaum,King Abdulaziz foundation for research and archives amongst several other responsibilities before being named chairman of the defence council then onwards to becoming the sucessor of the departed King Abdullah.A strong advocate for philantrophy to less well off muslim Nations, and also credited with business acumen and mediation skills which he deployed during his various stints and was actually the reason he was chosen for his assignment as Defence Minister which includes his diplomatic and conciliatory nature.He was married three times and has several children,notably one of his sons Sultan Bin Salman is the first member of the Royal family to fly into space in 1985.In relatively good health for his age although reportedly suffering from Alzeimher's desease.Aljazeera reporting his views archived in a 2007 US diplomatic cable states thus "the pace and extent of reforms depend on social and cultural factors, … that for social reasons—not [religious] reasons—reforms cannot be imposed by the [Saudi government] or there will be negative reactions, … [and] that changes have to be introduced in a sensitive and timely manner." According to the cable, he said that "democracy should not be imposed" in Saudi Arabia, since the country "is composed of tribes and regions and if democracy were imposed, each tribe and region would have its political party.
