Ibori’s british lawyer Gohil ordered to share £35m fortune with estranged wife
The British Indian lawyer that actively aided James ibori's crime by facilitating an elaborate money laundering scheme Bhadresh Gohil who is himself serving a 10year jail term for his part in Ibori's looting will be reeling in shock now, with the recent High court judgement instituted against him by his estranged wife Varsha Gohil
According to his now ex wife 50yr old from North london Varsha, the divorce settlement of £270,000 and a peugeot vehicle which she had earlier accepted as final divorce settlement was a gross undervalue of what her ex husband was really worth,as she later got financial evidence which came to light proving that her ex husband was worth in excess of £35m proceeds of his money laundering and other subterranean business concerns which he had kept hidden from his wife and the court.
Ms Gohil commenting after the judgement said there were "no winners", but spoke of her relief at the outcome.
The court by this judgement have indicated that her claims would return to the High Court where another settlement will be worked out based on the new figures.A BBC legal correspondent Clive Coleman said it was an "incredibly significant ruling" that meant a division of the parties' financial assets had to be based on a "valid agreement".
"If one of the parties is dishonest, if they are misleading about what their assets are, then this is a very clear signal that the other party can go back to court, can have the agreement set aside and can have the whole thing considered again," he said.
another issue still outstanding that will be dealt with by the courts at a later date will be the £35m fortune amassed by solicitor Bhadresh Gohil, which he has admitted is proceeds of crime and if either the estranged wife,or indeed any of the parties have a right to the funds, and if it will be seized by the police.
