Former Lagos state Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers defects to PDP
The gale of intra party defection which was limited to Politicians, appears to have extended to their frontline supporters as well, with recent news regarding defection of the former state Chairman of National Association of Road Transport workers Alhaji Akanni Olorunwa popuparly known by his friends and supporters as "God Dey".The former state Chairman of Nurtw, who was formerly a member and supporter of the All Progressive Congress has recently announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, and endorsed candidature of Jimi Agbaje the PDP Gubernatorial aspirant.
Those in the know infer that Akanni Olohunwa who had lost his seat to internal Politics within the Union, with loss of power also witnessed the inevitable loss of patronage and favour with the All Progressive Congress chieftains in Lagos state, had been shut out of the Union power structure in recent times by the Tajudeen Agbede leadership of the Union hence needed a way to get back at them and also mount a challenge to return back to relevance.
The PDP seeing his need and potential impact due to his influence reached out to him, and after consultations with the Governorship aspirant, was convinced to cast his lot with them. The contract of sorts the PDP have with him also include a gentleman's agreement that he will be involved in some way in the incoming Government if Jimi Agbaje triumphs, hence he has been campaigning vigorously since announcing his decision.
