Cameroon first lady Chantal Biya donates to Nigerian and CAR refugees
The first lady of Cameroon Chantal Biya a few days ago donated gifts and essentials valued at over 50Million Central African Francs ($82,482) to refugees from Central African Republic and Nigeria presently housed in refugee camps in Cameroon.The first lady's donation was presented to a representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees instationed in Cameroon,by Jean Stephane Biatcha the Executive Secretary of the Pan Arican NGO "Synergies Africaines"representing the first lady
Receiving the donation and gift items Ndeye Ndour, the UN representative, noted that in her 20 years of experience in humanitarian field, it was the first time she was witnessing such generosity from a first lady towards victims of conflict. Ndeye Ndour observed that "it is only in Cameroon I see a first lady involved for the well-being of all”. The UN has estimated that some 200 000 refugees fleeing the crisis in Nigeria and the Central African Republic have taken up residence in Cameroon,who need help with essential items including money to procure much needed supplies and temporary accomodation.
