At least 400 women and children abducted by Boko Haram in Damasak town
In a daring move that will have a potent and telling conscequence on the ongoing campaign against Boko Haram,reports just in suggests the Islamist insurgents have again kidnapped over 400 women and children from Damasak town in Borno state Nigeria,confirming the incident Lieutenant Colonel Toumba Mohamed, the Nigerien commander of the Niger-Chad forces in Damasak, said residents had reported between 400 and 500 women and children kidnapped.
According to the Reuters news agency,different eye witness accounts all align in confirming that a large number of inhabitants in the town were murdered in cold blood before the others were abducted.An eye witness who is a trader Souleymane Ali speaking to Reuters correspondent"They took 506 young women and children (in Damasak). They killed about 50 of them before leaving,We don't know if they killed others after leaving, but they took the rest with them."
Souleymane Ali also informed the Reuters correspondent that his wife and children were amongst the abducted Two of them were supposed to get married this year. (Boko Haram) said 'They are slaves so we're taking them because they belong to us'," he said.Another trader in the town Mohammed Ousmane also lamented that his two wives and three of his children were amongst the abducted.
According to yet another eye witness the insurgents had gathered all the women and children in the central mosque,before taking them all away.She had saved her children by hiding them in the house.One of the heartbroken victims Souleymane Ali waxing philosophical expressed fervent hopes that things will return to normal "We've seen the worst possible things you can imagine, so after a certain point there was no point in trying to leave," he said. "They killed all our friends, our family members, so we just submitted ourselves to God."
The town of Damasak which is one of the border towns straddling Borno state Nigeria and Niger republic, was one of the 3 towns liberated by the joint multi National force consisting Nigerien and Chadien troops
